THE BOOK

For the four computer giants essential to business buyers, 1992 was a killing year.  On July 16, 1992 the CEOs of both Digital Equipment and Hewlett Packard were pushed into retirement because they missed the industry-wide transition to Unix and Windows.  Soon afterwards, Wang Labs declared bankruptcy; another casualty of this shift in software platforms.  And similarly, IBM forced out its CEO a few months later. The relatively sudden swing from business buyers to consumers brought another round of dislocations.  This second edition of Limits of Strategy extends the story by describing the strategy resistant transition from on-premise computers to remote platforms or clouds.
